How on earth can you get wind turbines for the home for under $200? I was asking myself the same thing. What I found was that with some simple but well done plans you can do it for even cheaper than that! And the best part is that it doesn’t take any specialized skills or know-how.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Paul brought me over to his house so that I could see the DIY wind turbines that he built himself. We went out to the back of his property and he showed me his testing grounds.
Sure, they looked a little rickety but once I realized that all he did here was test, the stand looked a little less rinky-dink. Makes a ton of sense if you’re constantly dropping the turbine pole to put a new test unit on it!
We talked about the building process a little, and as it turns out you probably have most of the materials needed to build your own wind turbine lying around the garage. Everything else you can get at any major hardware store. And these things apparently don’t take too long to build.
These wind turbines will generate about 200-250W, or about twice as much power as a commercial solar panel. Not enough to power an average American household, but with a few of them and some battery buffer you’ll do pretty well.
I decided to buy the plans and I went home to check them out. Here’s a quick rundown of my pro’s and con’s for these plans:
Pros:
- The plans were detailed with step by step directions, pictures, and instructional videos.
- The plans included a wind map so I could determine the maximum potential output of the wind turbines.
- A list of applicable wind power tax credits and rebates were included. This was great because it helped me get these turbines basically for free.
Cons:
- I originally felt the price was a bit steep. But I must have hit the right time because the plans were on sale for $49.97, over 70% off of the regular price. As I write this the sale is still going, so hurry over and check it out before the sale is over.
- I got somewhat confused by one of the parts I had to buy. The directions weren’t completely clear on it. Thankfully a quick email to the company had everything cleared up in a few hours, and I think they’ve since updated the plans.
All in all I am really pleased with my investment. The fact that there was a no questions asked 60 day full refund guarantee made it a no-brainer. What did I have to lose?

By now you’re probably wondering what MY results were. Well, I spent half a day making my first turbine and ended up with a 250W turbine. I was thrilled. I’ve since made a couple more, and combined with my solar panels, I’m set!
Oh, I forgot to mention above, these plans also come with a similar set of plans for building your own solar panels, so if you don’t already have them, you can cover two types of alternate energy with one purchase.
I couldn’t be happier with my wind turbines for the home. Here’s a snapshot of the front yard of my new-old farmhouse. I hope you feel inspired by it. I urge you to try it yourself, it wasn’t anywhere near as hard as I’d imagined, and the sense of fulfillment I got from it was amazing!
